What is an Orange Paw volunteer, you ask?
Orange Paws is an elite group of DuPage County Animal Care & Control volunteers who are part of the shelter’s S.T.A.R. (Structured Training and Reinforcement) program.
Orange Paw (OP) volunteers work with “special needs” dogs: those that are scared, lack confidence, or have behavioral problems. They dedicate countless hours to learning dog handling skills that allow them to work with these special dogs.
Orange Paw volunteers provide the dogs with enrichment and socialization in an effort to improve the dogs' lives while at the shelter, preparing them for success with a new family.
Ella is a perfect example of a "special needs" dog. She arrived at the shelter emaciated and afraid of everything and everyone. OP volunteers worked on building her confidence, showing her love and teaching her basic manners.
Ella blossomed under their guidance. And just last week, DuPage County Animal Care & Control staff and OP volunteers were all smiles as Ella left the building with an amazing rescue! The rescue and foster home will continue her education and find her the perfect family.
Below you see two pictures of Ella flourishing into the happy, healthy, well-mannered dog that OP volunteers and staff knew she could become.
And that, folks, is what it's all about.
Please consider supporting Orange Paw efforts with a tax deductible donation that will go directly to funding enrichment items for the homeless dogs in the care of DuPage County.
