I am honored to donate to DCAS because this is a well-run organization where I also actively volunteer. DCAS is filled with knowledgeable, kind and passionate people, staff and volunteers alike, who are dedicated to bettering the welfare of all the animals that find their way through the doors. DCAS goes the extra mile for animals and is always looking for even more ways to give the highest quality of service.

Anonymous: In Memory of Brownie $1,000
I adopted my dog Brownie from DCAS last year. She was SO cute! This gift was given in her memory. I didn't have her very long, which is still heartbreaking to me. Our time together was brief, but she made a big impact on my heart, and I still miss her.

The Biscuit (Barb Zeiler): Junie B, Renamed Coco I AM HOME! $500
My life started mid March of 2018 when I was found alone outside as a VERY young kitten.I was brought to DCAS where I stayed for 18 days and was then adopted. Life was good for 4 years. Then a family health situation presented which resulted in my being surrendered back to DCAS.

Life at the shelter provided all the basic needs BUT it was strange being confined to a cage after having a home and family. I waited and waited---280 days---to be adopted again.

As the days became weeks, then months at the shelter, the staff noticed that I became "cranky" and did not like the company of other cats. Then a volunteer offered to foster me.

This foster mom noticed immediately that I had issues with the litter box, either frequency of use or inability to eliminate. Our vet, Dr.Barbara Hanek, was notified and prescribed a medication which was ineffective so then ordered x-rays which revealed stones in my bladder---5 of them!! (Wouldn't that make anyone cranky???) Emergency surgery was performed which was difficult because I was overweight. Dr. Hanek is a very skilled surgeon and DCAS has the means to provide acute care, medications and prescription food for such situations to ensure optimal health.

Post-op I did very well in my "studio apartment" which had a large window, soft calming music all day, a variety of cat beds, toys, good food and a nurse.

Then one day late January of 2023 someone noticed me on our website. My foster mom was told about this and as she said, it sounded "too good to be true" and if it does, well, you know the rest of that sentence. HOWEVER, I have been adopted and my hooman loves me and is SOooo committed to our being a family and sharing our home furever. It is the BEST and most happy home that a cat could ever dream of in a catnap in a lifetime----or for that matter in catnaps of "9 LIVES!"

Heather and Morty Zoellick: Morty Wants to Help Other Furry Friends $300
We support the incredible work of DCAS and DAF! We adopted Morty in 2020 and he brings such joy, love and laughter into our home. We are blessed to have him! As a volunteer and now a board member, seeing up close what DCAS does for all animals in need, is impressive, heartwarming and so needed. It makes you want to do more to help them. Even though they are the county, they receive no tax dollars for support. Their work is incredible and I’m proud to serve on DAF board to raise funds and support their work.
