What you need to know about the term "single pet household"

Single pet household. Those three little words change the adoptability of an animal immensely. Although many families only plan on having one pet in their home, seeing an animal labeled single pet household is concerning to many people.

Although these animals will never be dog park dogs, they will play in your yard, cuddle on your couch, go for walks, and do all the things dogs do every day.
They just prefer their companions be human.

Yes, these animals may require extra TLC. And they may need a pet owner who will embrace and manage their quirks. But animals labeled single pet household are still loving, playful pets.

They are animals that deserve a chance. A family. A home.

Please don't overlook animals just because they are labeled single pet household.
Ask questions. Go meet them. You may find one is the perfect pet for you.
Helga and Rubeus are two of the animals at DuPage County Animal Care & Control (DCACC) labeled single pet household. Please consider giving them an opportunity to shine.

Helga is a 6-year-old pit mix. She is in a foster home, but she would love for you to make an appointment to meet her at DCACC. Please call DCACC staff at 630-407-2800.

Rubeus is a 4-1/2-year-old Australian Cattle Dog. He is at DCACC and can't wait to meet you during animal viewing and adoption hours.

Thank you for giving single pet household dogs a chance.

One of the extraordinary delights of being with canines is their unconstrained articulation of what they are feeling.

Being a career woman at the same time acting as a housewife feels very uneasy. So a few years ago I was thinking of keeping dogs at home as my 8-year-old daughter Kylie's friend. The dog that we named Bizzie I really wished could be Kylie's playmate and look after him when I wasn't at home. Of course, that hope can easily be achieved since I applied the Brain Training for Dogs training method. Bizzie became very protective of Kylie and really took care of anything dangerous. Since then I have become calmer when I have to leave Kylie for overtime at the office. From that moment on I suggested all my friends use this method.
